MONTHLY DIBS | 1ST DIBS

1st dibs is a fascinating place to shop and a treasure trove of inspiration—from any genre and any period. On Saturdays, 1st dibs features Saturday Sale, much like a flea market... and fun Saturday Shopping trips [virtual of course] with leading designers and style icons like Kathryn Ireland, Hutton Wilkinson, Clair Watson, and many more. My search today is for wicker and I've found a couple of things I love from an oversized 1890s French Wicker Basket to a pair of Bamboo Reed Wicker Chairs from the 1950s. From furniture and lighting to jewelry to haute couture, 1st dibs has it all.

TWIGGY | THE SUPERMODEL

I idolized Twiggy growing up and even got the famous haircut in fifth grade. The National Portrait Gallery in London celebrates Twiggy and her 60th birthday with a photographic exhibition highlighting definitive moments in her cover girl career. Twiggy's iconic status exemplified Swinging London—named for the city's vibrant fashion and cultural scene in the 1960s. With her boyish haircut, waif-like bod and bold lashes, Twiggy created a look that illustrates an era. To accompany the exhibition [on through March], The National Portrait Gallery has published a book | Twiggy: A Life in Photographs.

DIANA VREELAND | style icon

A friend of mine and I were imagining Diana Vreeland as a modern-day blogger. Would she be wearing UGGs? Probably not. She was our ultimate tastemaker and most recognizable fashion icon. Known as DV to those lucky to be her friends, Diana Vreeland was the essence of classic elegance and savoir-faire. Her career began in 1936 at Harper's Bazaar where she eventually became fashion editor. After 25 years there, she joined Vogue where she remained the editor-in-chief until 1971.
Her autobiography DV is a great read.

DV was also loved for her wonderful sense
of humor and irreverence:
"What do I think about the way most people dress? Most people are
not something one thinks about."

"The only real elegance is in the mind; if you've got that, the rest really
comes from it."

"Blue jeans are the most beautiful things since the gondola."

"I adore that pink! It's the navy blue of India."

"Too much good taste can be boring."
