This humble message became the inspiration for Johannes Brahm's Requiem—a testament to the power of hope during times of darkness and despair. This Saturday, conductor Mark Mangini brings together two groups: Choral Society of the Hamptons | Greenwich Village Singers to perform Brahms Requiem [Ein Deutsches Requiem] at the historic Old Whalers Church in Sag Harbor. Mangini [musical director for both groups] will conduct the combined choral groups accompanied by a 40-instrument orchestra this Saturday, July 11 at 8pm.
Mark Mangini, who is known for his ambitious repertoire selections has chosen the Brahms Requiem "as fitting of our times." Brahms once said his Requiem "may be the most comforting, humane requiem ever written—a message of hope for all."
