A STREET-STYLE | GARANCE DORÉ

I love the street-style photographs of French stylist Garance Doré. I click through her vivid, soulful images with the same aesthetic bliss I feel when visiting her boyfriend Scott Schuman's brilliant Sartorialist.

Schuman & Doré ~ perfect match!

ETSY LOVE | GO GET SOME!

I admire the democratic platform of Etsy and love the fact that artists can easily upload their images and create a store within a day. The exploding collection of online stores on Etsy have established some new art stars and generated fodder for magazines and bloggers. But more importantly, these sites provide a way for people to find and afford wonderful art | inspiring ephemera | vintage goods—and also a way for artists of all genres [from 150 countries] to sell it. Trendwatching calls this phenomenon SELLSUMERS. “Whether it’s selling their insights to corporations, hawking their creative output to fellow consumers, or renting out unused assets, consumers will increasingly become SELLSUMERS."

It does take a bit of searching to find the really good stuff being hawked on sites like Etsy, but you can! Here is a sampling of some of my favorites {ETSY}

A MUSICAL SATURDAY IN SAG HARBOR

"Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." This humble message became the inspiration for Johannes Brahm's Requiem—a testament to the power of hope during times of darkness and despair. This Saturday, conductor Mark Mangini brings together two groups: Choral Society of the Hamptons | Greenwich Village Singers to perform Brahms Requiem [Ein Deutsches Requiem] at the historic Old Whalers Church in Sag Harbor. Mangini [musical director for both groups] will conduct the combined choral groups accompanied by a 40-instrument orchestra this Saturday, July 11 at 8pm. Mark Mangini, who is known for his ambitious repertoire selections has chosen the Brahms Requiem "as fitting of our times." Brahms once said his Requiem "may be the most comforting, humane requiem ever written—a message of hope for all."

Ticket Purchase here. You can also choose to be part of a celebrated dinner at the American Hotel, concert and "meet the artists" reception [post-concert] with the purchase of Benefactor & Underwriter tickets. Support for both the Choral Society of the Hamptons and the Greenwich Village Singers is greatly appreciated.

FOURTH OF JULY IN NEW ENGLAND

The Farm, by Eric K. Andersen [my husband]

The Farm is where we spend every 4th of July with our gracious hosts Julie & Julian and a lot of old friends. We drink "débutante punch" [a champagne concoction and secret of Julian's] while we shell peas. Our annual menu is somewhat of a New England tradition and includes vichyssoise or some other amazing cold soup made by friend Ceci, poached salmon with an incredible herby-cream sauce, lightly steamed fresh English peas [my duty], heavenly organic greens and herbs with a sensuous vinaigrette [by Ceci], yummy baguettes galore, and incredible strawberry shortcake made by Julie with the freshest cream imaginable. Divine. Happy 4th of July 2009!

Please listen to John William's brilliant composition [woven through the sweet melody of the Shaker hymn Simple Gifts] in this video from Obama's Inauguration. It was a shining moment for all and it's wonderful to revisit it on this July 4th weekend...
